Porec-Parenzo, 01 June 2023.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, as part of the EUKI "Balkan Solar Roofs“ project, Town of Poreč-Parenzo and Poreč Sunny Office, in cooperation with Region of Istra-Istria, Istrian Regional Energy Agency (IRENA), Regional coordinator for European programmes and funds of the Region of Istria (AURORA) and Green Energy Cooperative (ZEZ), invite representatives and employees of local self-government units to attend Regional Sunny workshop: "What can Cities and Municipalities do to encourage and accelerate the renewable energy projects development in their area?".

The educational workshop will take place on Monday, June 5th, 2023, at Obrtnički dom Poreč, Partizanska ul. 5a, 52440 Poreč-Parenzo (on the first floor) and is intended for representatives and employees of local self-government units.

Within the European Climate Pact and the European Green Deal, the European Union has set the ultimate goal of Europe becoming the first climate-neutral continent by 2050, at the same time recognizing the enormous potential that lies in empowering citizens as active participants in the energy market.

With rising energy prices and the impacts of climate breakdown being felt more acutely than ever, there is an urgent need for more renewable energy in our cities.

After the Poreč Sunny Office opened its doors to citizens in February, it continues with educational activities and motivational development of renewable energy projects.

What are the specific activities that Cities and Municipalities can undertake to encourage and accelerate the development of renewable energy projects in their area?

What are the already existing examples of good practice of Cities and Municipalities in their implementation?

What co-financing mechanisms are available for their implementation?

Which regional/national entities can provide support in their implementation?

are just some of the questions the workshop will give answers to, Gordana Lalić, the CEO of the Municipal Company Parentium L.t.d., the project coordinator, concluded.

The energy transition and transition to renewable energy sources largely takes place ''on our doorstep''. Being surrounded by vast number of details and information, citizens very often, do not know what their role in energy transition is, they do not know what to do, nor where to start. This is why, Cities and Municipalities must take on an active role of facilitators within the energy transition and provide support and assistance to their citizens so that together they can reach the common goal of living in green and sustainable cities, as easily and as quickly as possible, said Loris Peršurić, Mayor of the Town of Poreč-Parenzo.

Due to the limited number of places, all those interested are asked to secure their place at the workshops by registering at the email address: suncani.ured@porec.h
